About this speaker

As an interdisciplinary researcher and data scientist, my research spans the field of type 1 diabetes, integrating foundational and clinical data to drive international collaboration. I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow within the Alberta Diabetes Institute at the University of Alberta, having completed my training at the University of Exeter, UK. I hold leading roles in international research consortia, including on a BreakthroughT1D-funded project, providing evidence for the use of metabolic modelling to design future type 1 diabetes intervention trials. My research also explores the potential of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data to better understand the daily lives of people with type 1 diabetes and enable more accurate characterisation of its burden. I am also interested in the use of CGM to monitor high-risk individuals for earlier identification of type 1 diabetes onset and progression. Along with international collaboration, my research is deeply rooted within the University of Alberta’s Clinical Islet Transplant Program, where I have the privilege to work on unique datasets that can inform clinical decision making and support individuals considering clinical islet transplantation. I am committed to open science—fostering collaboration, accessibility, and transparency data analytics in research. Driven by my lived experience of type 1 diabetes, my goal is to bridge disciplines to deepen our collective understanding of the disease, inform prevention strategies, and generate insights that could ultimately improve the lives of those who live with it every day.
